Our Story
We started this because we have been there — and we believe no one should have to figure it out alone.
Why we exist
If you have sat with a stack of paperwork, a decision letter you weren't sure how to read, or a referral you didn't know how to follow up on — you are not alone. Military transition can bring a wall of forms, appointments, and decisions at exactly the time you are also managing health, family, finances, and the question of what comes next.
We know what that feels like because we have lived through it ourselves. Confusion with the system is not a personal failure — it is the system. And when you are already carrying a lot, figuring out what to do next can feel impossible.
We exist because too many veterans and families are left to navigate complex systems at the hardest possible time. Our role is simple: we help make that process clearer — one question, one next step at a time.
Who we are
We are veterans and family members who have been through these systems ourselves. We are a developing, veteran-led nonprofit initiative, currently operating on a limited-capacity basis. Our board, professional, and volunteer capacity is being built — and we would rather be honest about where we are than overstate what we can deliver.
What we share is lived understanding of military service, release, and transition. When you reach out, you are talking to people who have faced similar questions — not a call centre or a bureaucracy.
How we operate
We provide free, plain-language navigation, education, document organization, and referral support. We explain your options and help you sort out what to do next. The responsible organization always makes the decision — we do not.
We are upfront about our service boundaries. We do not provide legal advice, medical advice, clinical counselling, financial advice, emergency response, or guaranteed benefit outcomes. If another organization is better placed to help you, we will say so.
Resources and relationships
Our advocacy work is aligned with the "One Veteran, One Standard" principle. VANCA identifies and explains external veteran, disability, legal, health, housing, family and community resources. Organizations we list are independent services; listing does not imply partnership or endorsement unless a relationship is specifically identified. We do not display an organization's logo without documented permission.
Funding
VANCA is a Vancouver-founded, veteran-led nonprofit initiative established in 2026, based in British Columbia. We operate through grants, donations, and in-kind support. We are not a registered charity; if charitable status is obtained, we will confirm it here.
