How We Work Together

When you reach out, you are talking to people who understand. Here is what happens next.

Where we are today

VANCA was established in 2026 as a veteran-led, Vancouver-founded online nonprofit initiative. We are building a Canada-wide online community to provide navigation, education, advocacy and referral information. Support is currently offered on a limited-capacity basis while our systems, governance and public resources continue to grow.

We are not a large organization. We do not offer 24-hour service, a national network of confirmed partners, or guaranteed response times. What we do offer is honest, veteran-led help with the systems you are dealing with.

Why we do this

We have been in the room with the stack of paperwork. We have read the decision letter and wondered what it meant. We know what it feels like to not know what to do next — and we know that having someone walk alongside you can make a real difference.

Who you will talk to

You will be talking to veterans and family members who have been through these systems themselves. We are currently a small group, and our board, professional, partner, and volunteer capacity is still being developed. We work within clearly defined service boundaries — and we are upfront about what we can and cannot do.

We would rather be honest about our size and capacity than overstate what we can deliver. If we are not the right fit for your situation, we will say so and help you find who is.

What We Can Do

We help you understand what is in front of you and sort out what to do next. The responsible organization always makes the decision — we do not.

We can help you:

  • Explain benefit and service information in plain language
  • Identify programs that may be worth exploring
  • Help organize questions, records, deadlines, and next steps
  • Help you understand decision letters
  • Explain review, appeal, reassessment, and referral pathways
  • Identify external organizations that may be a better fit
  • Provide plain-language educational resources
  • Record anonymized recurring system barriers to support reform

What we don't do:

  • Make eligibility decisions
  • Guarantee approval
  • Assign disability percentages
  • Diagnose or treat conditions
  • Provide crisis response
  • Provide unauthorized legal representation
  • Give individualized tax or financial advice
  • Impersonate a client or access a client's government account
  • Replace an accredited representative or responsible professional

You remain in control of your information and decisions. We explain options and help organize possible next steps without pressure.

How we work together

Five steps. You start with what you know — we walk the rest of the way with you.

How support works

Five steps — we walk alongside you.

  1. 1.

    Request received

You tell us what is happening in your own words. You do not need to know the program name or have every document organized.

  2. 2.

    Initial review

We review the general issue, important dates, service boundaries, consent and whether VANCA currently has capacity to assist.

  3. 3.

    Written next-step information

Where VANCA can assist, we provide plain-language information identifying possible pathways, questions to ask, documents to gather and official sources to consult.

  4. 4.

    Referral or handoff

With your consent, VANCA may identify or contact an appropriate external organization. A referral is not complete until the receiving organization confirms whether it can assist.

  5. 5.

    Follow-up or closure

Where capacity permits, VANCA may follow up to clarify the next step, record whether a referral was accepted and close or update the navigation request.

Submitting a request does not create a lawyer-client, healthcare-provider, financial-adviser, accredited-representative, formal case-management or emergency-service relationship.

You remain in control of your information and your decisions. We explain options and help organize possible next steps — without pressure, and at your pace.

Personalized support is currently limited and subject to availability. Submitting a request does not guarantee that VANCA can accept or manage the matter. Online requests are not monitored continuously.
