Health, Dental & Transition Continuity
The barrier veterans are experiencing
Veterans transitioning from service often encounter gaps in dental coverage, mental health continuity, and access to specialists. VAC does not automatically provide treatment benefits while disability claims are processed — a wait that can exceed two years. Common secondary conditions may require separate, lengthy applications rather than being recognized automatically.
What VANCA is advocating for
VANCA supports immediate treatment benefits for all disability types while claims are pending; presumptive entitlement for common conditions and secondary disabilities; seamless dental and health coverage during transition; and expanding the 2022 mental health treatment benefit to cover all disabilities.
How this may affect you and your family
If you filed a claim for a physical condition and waited months or years for treatment benefits — even though most such claims are eventually approved — VANCA believes that gap should not exist. Every veteran in transition deserves continuity of care without administrative delay.
