What is this?

The Education and Training Benefit (ETB) provides eligible Veterans with funding toward a completed education or training plan after release. Eligibility is primarily based on accumulated paid CAF service, with benefit tiers tied to years of service and current indexed maximums. The program can support formal education and shorter courses, but approval, remaining entitlement, time limits and eligible costs must be confirmed before committing to study.

You may wish to explore this program if the following appear relevant: Generally requires an honourable release from the CAF. At least six years of paid service is required for the lower tier and twelve years for the higher tier, calculated from paid days under current rules. Applications and completion are subject to statutory time limits after release, with special transition provisions for some earlier releases. A person cannot receive ETB and vocational-rehabilitation funding for the same period or purpose where rules prohibit duplication. Only Veterans Affairs Canada or the legally responsible decision-maker can determine eligibility.

VAC obtains paid-service information from DND.
